St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

344 Maple Avenue Waynesboro, Virginia 22980

Welcome to Our Parish Website

It is our heartfelt desire to serve our own people and those whom God sends to us.

Hopefully you will find this website to be helpful in learning about us and the work we do within the broader mission of the Roman Catholic church in the world. We are part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond VA with our bishop Most Rev. Francis X. DiLorenzo.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church was founded in 1946 and is located in the Shenandoah Valley of the Commonwealth of Virginia, north of Interstate 64 between Charlottesville and Staunton. We are about an hour and a half from our state’s capital Richmond to the east, about an hour and a half from Roanoke to the south, and about three hours from Washington D.C. to the northeast.

We are a church of approximately 850 households, a Christian family dedicated to hearing God’s Word proclaimed and preached, celebrating meaningful Catholic liturgy and tradition, building with one another a true fellowship of sisters and brothers, and reaching out generously to those in need among us and in the larger community.

Working with me is a dedicated staff of church administrators and lay ministers, as well as a pastoral council and finance council, who commit themselves to the mission and vision of St. John the Evangelist Church. With hope and faith we forge ahead to meet the challenge of living authentic Christian lives in a changing world. Jesus Christ is our model, his mother Mary and the saints our friends and guides along the journey, St. John the Evangelist our patron, the Holy Spirit our driving wind and raging fire, and the way of the Gospel our inspiration and our creed.

Once again, welcome.

Rev. Rolo B. Castillo
Pastor

Parish Mission Statement

The Parish community of St. John the Evangelist is committed to follow the example of Jesus and so we are called to accept God’s challenge to “Come, Follow Me”. We commit ourselves: to proclaim the Gospel through meaningful liturgy, to address spiritual, physical, emotional and financial needs appropriately, to provide ongoing spiritual formation and education of our people and to promote the value of Christian family life and the sanctity of all human life, to protect all of God’s creation and environment, to reconcile the alienated of the parish, especially those separated by culture, age and race, to minister to those who are homebound or physically and mentally challenged, to work for a more just social order, and to embrace the spirit of ecumenism. To fulfill the above commitments, we will give freely of our time, talents and finances in response to Christ’s call.
